| The end is only the beginning
Well I've made the decision: I will move my posts to a blogspot site. You may now find me at this address. Don't be alarmed, I won't be changing the way I post or anything - it's just somewhere else. See you there!
| NEVER FEAR, BEN IS HERE!!!!
Well hello, everyone. It's been a week since my last post. I'm very tired from driving all the way back from Colorado today with my dad. We had a great time there and in Kansas City with the rest of my family. I have many pictures that will come soon. But in the mean time...
Rant of the Week
There are many different ways to post a blog onto the internet. Two of the more popular ones are Xanga and Blogger. As you may have guessed, I chose Xanga. But you may not know that I only chose it because my brother had one - "peer presure," you might call it. But I had forgotten that most of my friends from LeTourneau (my first school) use Blogger. Why choose one over the other? Peer pressure. Personal preference. Better options.
That's a good one - better options. My family and friends want to keep up with my by reading my Xanga. But, unless they too have a Xanga, they are unable to post comments because Xanga only allows current users to post anything. This preterbs me. Blogger allows annonymous people and non-users to post things. My friends are people too. Why can't Xanga do the same thing? I'm considering switching to Blogger for this very reason.
More to come on that subject...
Happy Feeling of the Week
I got to see lots of family over this last week. I saw my mom's parents and her 2 brothers and their families. Between the two of them, they have 8 kids, ranging from post-high school to baby. All that was in Kansas City. Then in Colorado, my dad and I saw his sister and her family - 2 girls, college & high school. It's good to see family. Everyone should see family at least a couple times per year. We see my mom's family fairly regularly, but not my dad's. I hadn't seen them in like 3 years or something. I have other cousins I haven't seen in like 5 or 6 years, and others even longer than that. Oh well. I blame the parents.
If you're ever feeling down, go to the mountains. They make you all better.
Kansas is probably the most boring state to drive through. There are few hills, no mountains, few rivers/streams to cross, few cities bigger than a wheat field, and lots and lots and lots and lots of wheat and corn. It feels like the biggest state.
I hope everyone had a good Christmas, as I did. Have a pleasent New Years celebration, but don't over-do anything. *wink* *wink* I have to be back to school in less than a week for RA training - woot! - so I haven't had, nor do I have, much time to be at home. I'll have to play extra hard with my dog this last week.
| I haven't slept. We're going to leave for KC in a couple hours. I'm mostly packed. I need stuff for CO also. Why haven't I slept? Helping my dad stay awake to do stuff so he's able to leave work for a week. It's crazy.
ben + sleep = awesome. super awesome.
I guess i won't be much use driving tomorrow. oh well. i've driven the whole way myself once. my mom and bro can share. see you in a week!
i need sleep... | | |
| Rant of the Week
Is the speed limit really the speed limit? When I was taking driver's ed, they actually taught us that you could go about 5 mph over the posted limit and still be OK. That didn't make sense to me. The word "limit" means the absolute edge of something; the parameters, if you will. If 40 mph is the absolute maximum speed you are allowed by law to travel, why do they allow you to travel at 45 mph? I just didn't understand.
Upon further consideration, I decided that one reason they allow a "cushion" is the fact that you may be passing someone and need the extra speed. Or you may be rolling down a hill or something. But on the other hand, shouldn't you take that into account when going down a hill, start applying the brakes a bit? And, why do you need to pass this guy if you're both going the lawful speed limit? It just doesn't add up.
The only other thing I can think of is that cops are just lazy. They don't want to deal with some soccer mom who's only going 41 on her way to pick up the kids from practice, when she's already late. It's like they're only trying to catch the big fish, when any fish will do. I believ that if we as a society realize that police officers are writing tickets for going 1 mph over the posted limit, we'll slow down. It's all about appearances. Once we know what the "rules" are, we'll follow them. If the rules are you can go 5 over, we'll go 5 over. If the rules are that we can only go the posted speed limit, we'll only go the posted speed limit. It's all about the public knowing what we're allowed to get away with, don't you think?
It's technically Thursday, though it hasn't been for very long. My mom thinks that my Rants of the Week are too negative, and she wants me to do something positive. So here is the first installment of the Happy Feeling of the Week. Please enjoy.
Happy Feeling of the Week
On Monday, I went to my former roommate's house out in Longview, TX. I used to attend LeTourneau University, which is in Longview. Dave (my former roommate) has since graduated, been married, and now has a 1 year old boy, Christopher. That kid is so much fun to watch. You could just do nothing all day but play with him and just watch him eat things. You see, Christopher does not play things like other kids might. No, he eats things. If he can reach it, he'll eat it -- toys, towels, blankets, cups, dogs -- whatever he can get his hands on. I am told that all babies are like this. Very strange. I guess it all has to do with the whole "teething" thing.
Anyway, that kid loved me, and I have to admit I loved him too. Dave and Jokonda (his wife) said he doesn't usually warm up to people like he did to me. That was nice to hear.
I may or may not be within 100 feet of a computer next Thursday. If not, I'll post the Rant of the Week and the Happy Feeling of the Week (if there is one) as soon as I can. Until then, keep on keeping on.
| I was recently in East Texas visiting some friends of mine, and I just had to stop to take a couple of pictures. Below are some pics right around my friend's place. And Didlake, you're the man.

But on the other hand, it's supposed to be in the 70s on Friday [suck]...AND IT'S ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!!! WHERE DID ALL THE COLD WEATHER GO?!?!?!? As I mentioned earlier, I'm going to the big KC for Christmas to see my mom's family. That should be fun. We do that every other year and go there for Thanksgiving the other every other year. Then my dad and I are going straight to Colorado. Hooray for real winter weather.
Have a merry Christmas everyone, and don't forget what Christmas is all about.
* * * Edit * * * One of our cars went over 200,000 miles this week. Yikes. I hope I don't die soon...
